Why Muelle de los Bueyes, Nicaragua?

This missional formation experience originated from the Office of Pastoral Services, under Deacon Charlie Stump who first traveled to Honduras and fell in love with the people and work of building the Kingdom in Central & South America.  For over a decade, Deacon Charlie has invited the Catholic schools in the Diocese to travel on summer mission to experience the culture and faith of the people of Honduras, and now Nicaragua.  The Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries, with the support of Deacon Charlie and the permission of Bishop Paul Schmitz are expanding our relationship and presence in the Apostolic Vicariate of Bluefields, Nicaragua.

Nicaragua is the second most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere.  It has a significant Catholic population with many material and immaterial needs.  Given its vast geographical area and rural community culture, education and resources are a constant need in the rural communities.  We have much to offer in support of our brothers in sisters in the south, but indeed we represent just a small, humble step towards the solidarity and common good we seek.  We must realize that our family in the south has just as much to share with us, and this year’s mission offers us a wonderful opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ in our neighbor across the world, and in turn share the Gospel through service and fellowship.
